6 Things To Do While Listening To Podcasts

what-to-do-while-listening-to-podcasts

There is no better way of consuming great knowledge than by learning from other peoples experiences that they share through various means such as podcast, books, and interviews. By definition, A podcast is a form of audio broadcasting on the web. It can be listened to on the go while commuting to the office or even while working. It’s a content medium that doesn’t require all of your target audience’s attention like a video or a blog post.

Among the many reasons why it’s more beneficial to consume audio contents like podcasts than video content is the fact that they allow us to easily multi-task. For me, I can happily listen to a few podcasts a day while going about with my daily activities. Here are six (6) great ideas for things you can do while listening to podcasts.

1. Check your emails (Inbox Zero)

According to Radicati’s Email Statistics Report, business professionals sent and received an average of 126 emails per day in 2017. And that number is only increasing. With this incessant stream of emails flooding our inbox, it’s hard to stay sane, let alone productive. We can barely fathom the day when our inbox is clean when we have zero unread emails. One of the best times to take time in attending to all emails both personal and official is while listening to podcasts. By doing this every day will help you stay ahead of your email messages and be more productive at work.

2. Physical Exercise / Work-Outs

Physical exercise & Podcast listening goes very much hand in hand. If you’re tired of your usual mix of tunes during work-outs, it’s time to consider crossing over to the world of podcasts. Listening to a podcast while you work-out helps your mind to be completely entertained and also makes your exercise time also a learning time. You can consider listening to educational kinds of podcasts like TED Talks Daily or motivational podcasts like The Gary Vee Audio Experience or The School of Greatness with Lewis Howes to keep you pumped up during this time.

3. Driving or Commuting

Listening to a podcast is great for everyday commuters. Either you are the one driving or you are just a passenger in someone else car, a great podcast might just be your best companion for the road (especially when you are stuck in traffic). Personally, for me, I use the time I take in driving to work every morning to catch up on new episodes of some of my favorite podcasts. Listening to a podcast while driving should not be any more distracting than radio but always make sure you have your podcast playlist before you start driving to avoid the distraction if looking down to choose a podcast to play. Safety first!

4. Relax with your favorite drink

Sometimes it’s best not to do anything serious while listening to a podcast than to relax with your favorite drink in front of you. The drink should be something you’ll have to drink slowly like coffee, alcohol, hot chocolate, tea, etc. If you are a habitual coffee drinker just like me, you might consider having a cup of coffee with you as you enjoy your podcast. If you have a special place you like to go to relax, go there and just do what you enjoy while listening to your podcast.

5. Do your household chores

Doing household chores and listening to podcasts is a great hack to getting things done faster. Whether we like it or not, household chores are a necessary part of everyday life, ensuring that our homes continue to run efficiently and that our living environments remain organized and clean, thereby promoting good overall health and safety. Household chores generally include things like cleaning the house, laundry, cooking, washing dishes, cutting the garden grass, etc.

6. Play games that are less distracting

When it comes to listening to podcasts, not all games are suitable to play due to the required level of concentration by these games. Rather, play a game that doesn’t require much focus. Some mobile games on the phone are good for it right out of the gate, games like Candy Crush or Subway Surf. Others it’s better to get acquainted with first, but after you do they work great for this.

Conclusion

For newbies in the podcast world, it can be difficult to concentrate and multi-task at first. If that’s the case for you, I recommend starting out with doing household chores and taking a long road-walk (in the form of an exercise). These activities don’t require much thought on your part, so you can train your mind to listen without losing track of the story or information that is been consumed. Once you’re more comfortable, you can switch to slightly more demanding tasks and before you know it, you’ll be able to listen to all types of podcasts while multi-tasking.
